Magnifica is the first MSC cruise ship to cross the Atlantic Ocean to New York, a fact that is quite unusual for a European company. The 2010-built MSC Magnifica cruise ship is the fourth and last of MSC Cruises' Musica-class liners, with sisterships Orchestra, Poesia, Musica. Our Asian restaurant offers authentic Japanese, Chinese and Thai dishes in a informal atmosphere. A tempting range of oriental cuisine including nigiri, sashimi, maki, temaki, dim sum, dumplings, rolls, wonton, noodles, shrimps and chicken satay, Pad Thai and much more. The MSC Magnifica will commence operations with a maiden voyage from Amsterdam on 9 March 2010. Following the inaugural voyage, the ship will operate on a series of seven-day cruises in the western Mediterranean.

MSC Magnifica is one of the Musica-class ships, which debuted in 2006 and include sister ships MSC Musica, Orchestra and Poesia, with Magnifica the last to join the quartet in 2010. Most notably, and in keeping with its Italian heritage, MSC is the only cruise line to feature live opera performances. On our cruise this was a potted and suitably fiery version of "Carmen" starring an accomplished soprano, tenor and flamenco dancer alongside the resident onboard entertainers. The neighbouring Juniors Club is for 7 to 11-year-olds and has the same opening hours as the Miniclub. With a football table and video games, it offers age appropriate sessions covering arts and crafts, sports, theme nights and activities themed around the popular web series starring Kelly & Kloe (also shown in the Miniclub).

Due to the global Coronavirus pandemic, the itinerary was altered (the voyage was subsequently canceled) as on March 14th MSC suspended cruise shipping operations fleetwide and globally. In October 2017, MSC announced a second "around the world" voyage on Magnifica. Departing in January 2020, the itinerary had planned a total of 40 ports of call in 23 countries on 5 continents. The 3-month long voyage was available for booking as a roundtrip from either Civitavecchia-Rome, Genoa, Marseille or Barcelona. It also featured a Transatlantic crossing and a Suez Canal transit.

Loungers, available for everyone to use, are also set out on Deck 14, including the area that circles Le Grand Bleu pool and beyond. The further you are from the pool the quieter it is, particularly towards the back of the ship, which is a pleasant place to read and snooze in relative peace. In common with many cruise ships, "chair hogs" can be an issue on sunny days.

We decided to try our luck with MSC because of the price expecting the worst. Embarking & disembark-super fast and easy- staff were great food was pretty darn good- dining room was very good- buffet average . Service was good most of the time - slow one night in dinig room but never awful. Price of drinks very reasonable and price of cruise was an unbelievable value for what you received.

We are seniors (young 80 year olds!) So enjoyed it not being a party cruise. Teens are divided into two age groups, 12 to 14 and 15 to 17, called Young Club and Teens Club respectively. They have their own suitably cool and grown-up area on Deck 14, which is also close to the small games arcade and 4D cinema. Various activities are arranged throughout the day for each group, including sports, challenge games, karaoke, themed parties and a nightly disco. They can also go to the Generation Dinner in the buffet restaurant with members of the entertainment team, which is a free service. Two formal restaurants onboard MSC Magnifica serve Mediterranean and Italian cuisine in traditional assigned seatings.
Crossword and Sudoku puzzles are available from the desk in the library. Next door to the library is a card room with six tables and walls decorated with giant playing card suits, which is a fun touch. There is no bar service in the Royal Theatre and, officially, passengers are not meant to take drinks inside. However, the closest bar is the Tiger Bar located next to the entrance to the theatre on Deck 6, and plenty of theatregoers wander in with drinks while crew members turn a blind eye.
Another thing to note is that cigarette smoking is more prevalent on MSC than other lines, with designated areas on the pool decks and inside the ship (in a section of the casino and in the cigar lounge). In summer 2021, the bigger/stretched Magnifica was homeported in Southampton (England UK). The itineraries varied from 2-night (mini-cruise) to 14-night visiting destinations in the Mediterranean, Canary Islands, Madeira, Baltic Sea, Northern Europe. MSC states that towels and objects left unattended on loungers for more than 30 minutes "may" be removed and taken to the reception. Away from the lounging areas around the pools is the quiet haven Top 16, which, as the name implies, is situated overlooking the bow at the top of the ship on Deck 16. This private sun spot, with a bar, two splash pools and showers, is a for-fee area (free to Aurea passengers) that is open from 7 a.m.
